Source: ET dated November 6, 2023 State sponsored cyberattacks against India went up by 278% between 2021 and September 2023, exposing IT services and BPO companies the most. In this period, targeted cyberattacks on government agencies went up by 460% and those on startups and SMEs by 508%.
According to the ET article, India is seeing a higher proportion of foreign state-influenced cyber attacks than the rest of the world. India is facing 13.7% of all cyberattacks, followed by USA with 9.6% of all attacks.
In the past 3 years alone, there has been a rise of 460% in targeted cyberattacks on government agencies. Globally, almost 68% of cyberattacks were state-sponsored.
Almost all the industries got the cyber threats like
a. IT and BPO companies faced 14.3% cyberattacks.
b. Manufacturing companies faced 11.6% cyberattacks.
c. Healthcare and Education at around 10% cyberattacks.
d. Retail including online platforms saw 9.8% cyberattacks.
e. Government agencies saw 9.6% cyberattacks.
f. Banking and financial services institutions saw 9.5% cyberattacks.
g. Automobiles saw 8.3% cyberattacks.
h. Airlines saw 6.1% cyberattacks.
As many as 39 active targeted campaigns were launched by companies from China, Russia and North Korea.
According to RUDRAS Online, there will be a need of trained and upskilled cyber security professionals to counter such threats and save our industries and the critical data.
